How I Make Singaporean Pineapple Gin Sling
I was on the “Singapore” episode of Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil and I discovered another attractive drink from this Southeast Asian city.
The Singapore Sling is a gin-based cocktail developed by Ngiam Tong Boon, a barista at Long Bar in Raffles Hotel. By that time, it was socially unacceptable for women to drink alcohol in public so Ngiam made the cocktail look like fruit juice to enable women to drink it.
And moments after I watched Netflix, I saw this barista I follow on TikTok. His TikTok name is drinkswithdace and he just posted a clip that shows the recipe, ingredients and measurements of a Singapore Sling. I think, that’s the sign that we have to do this at home as well. I may not have the tools such as cocktail shaker at home but I have the spirits, which I luckily found in my dad’s old bar.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- 1.5oz gin
- 0.5oz cherry heering
- 0.25oz contreau
- 1.25oz benedictine
- 2oz pineapple juice
- 0.5oz lime juice
- 0.25oz grenadine
- 2 dashes Bitters
- Ice
- Pineapple slice
2. I have here a glass of pineapple juice. I just put in the gin, cherry heering, contreau, benedictine, grenadine and bitters.
3. Squeeze in juices from lemon.
4. Add the ice.
5. Cover and shake.
6. Pour over a glass of ice.
7. Garnish with a pineapple slice.
8. Your Singapore Sling is now done and ready to be served.
