I’m creating Fairy Bread,!but make it Christmas! I know, I know! The classic version calls for sprinkles or hundreds and thousands, but since the holidays are upon us, I thought, why not switch things up? Truthfully, it’s just my clever excuse to use up the mountain of candy canes we have for the kids here. But come on, crushed candy canes as toppings? Festive, fun, and slightly minty! What’s not to love?
If you’ve been following my recent blogs, you’ll know I’ve been to Australia not too long ago, and Fairy Bread was one of the quirkiest local treats I discovered. In a country known for its diverse cuisine, this simple yet charming snack stood out for its nostalgic appeal. It’s literally bread, butter, and toppings, but somehow it just works! So, here’s my festive take on this Aussie classic that is perfect for holiday gatherings or just for fun.
1. Prepare all the ingredients.
- a slice of bread
- butter
- candy canes
2. Crush the candy cane using food processor.
3. Spread butter on the bread. I’m glad that they didn’t think of putting vegemite here.
4. Dip on a bed of crushed candy canes.
5. And that’s it! You’re Candy Cane Fairy Bread is now done and ready to be served.
