Kamil’s Bakeshop: Where Your Sweet Dreams Come True

It’s the 69th day of quarantine period in our region and ever since the lockdown has been modified, I was going back and forth Pinamalayan and Calapan frequently. How I miss long rides! But aside from travelling, I also find time to revisit restaurants, cafes and other food houses from the north. My recent catch up was in Kamil’s Bakeshop.

Kamil’s Bakeshop has always been my first choice when I’m in need of cakes. Honestly, I can’t think of other bakeshop from these towns that offer decent and fine cakes. Aside from online sellers and bakers who posts luscious cakes and pastries in Facebook, my meticulous palate can only name and remember a few like Mimie’s of Pinamalayan, Macky’s Bakeshop and Cafe of Calapan and, of course, Kamil’s Bakeshop.

I’ll be sharing my thoughts about all of these. For now, let me start with Kamil’s Bakeshop.

Carrot Cake

This may be a simple carrot cake with minimal frosting on the outside. But inside, there’s a surprise waiting to be devoured. Aside from the carrot bread, there are also dark chocolate and raisins hiding from the cake. Instead of a usual two layered cake, it has three layers, which gives way to more fillings and flavors. I love that the foamy icing isn’t too sweet. Actually, we had concerns with this cake but I commend Kamil’s for the quick action.

Ube Custard Cake

Ube Custard Cake was my first love in Kamil’s Bakeshop. It’s like having two best Filipino desserts in one – ube and leche flan. Nevertheless, the whole thing is not too sweet. The moist ube bottom is kinda bitter but it was just fine to complement with the sweet custard on top. Speaking of custard, it was creamy and eggy at the same time. I’m glad that the cake is generous in it. Anyway, if you’re not a fan of ube, Kamil’s Custard Cake also comes in Vanilla. 

Red Velvet Cheesecake

Red velvet and cheesecake are two of my boyfriend’s favorite flavors for a cake. I’m glad that Kamil’s have this combo so I immediately bought this for his birthday. The cake is moist and you could feel the richness of the ingredients from it. The cream cheese was really flavorful since its fillings were thick. The conical chocolate bits on top were a good addition. Anyway, if you’re looking for a pie, they have Blueberry Cheesecake, which is also a must-try.

Triple Chocolate Cake in Can

I’ve been waiting for this for a long time! When these are available, I’m at Pinamalayan. When I’m in Calapan, they don’t have it. Although I’m aiming for Fruit Delight, I’m happy to finally get a Triple Chocolate. And it is delish! Dream cake is known to have multiple layers of chocolate goodness. The name alone makes it satiating. But I appreciate Kamil’s Cake in Can for using dark chocolate to ease the sweetness, making it one of the best Dream Cakes I tasted.

Crinkles

Usually, Crinkles are flat like most cookies out there. But we got balls or stone-shaped ones from Kamil’s. They may have weird forms, but this also means bigger cookies for us. Their crinkles are giving us elements as there are parts that are soft and there are parts that are crunchy. However, since it has large cookies, it isn’t proportional to the amount cream cheese filling. But I love that they’re gooey and moist, especially the chocolate flavor.
