Bo’s Coffee: Your Homegrown Brew

One proud Pinoy moment is knowing that we have a big Philippine-grown coffee brand that patronizes and highlights the coffee beans of the country. Bo’s Coffee is a prominent coffee shop that has a goal of utilizing locally-sourced coffee beans and supporting local farmers in every cup of coffee sold in their cafes.

I discovered Bo’s Coffee through their branch in DLSU but I eventually learned about their devotion to Philippine coffee culture and artistry at coffee expos. Because of this, I loved them even more. After all, with Bo’s Coffee, I got to perceive the exquisite flavors of Philippine coffee.

Hot Caramel Latte

I was surprised to taste chocolate hints in a caramel latte. Perhaps, that was the notes of the beans, which is good because they were able to exemplify the flavors of the beans. Like an ombre, I was able grasp the toffee-like flavor of caramel at the end of the drink. It blends so well with the coffee. It just came naturally. I also like the milk that they used. I just wish they have smaller size for hot coffee because their smallest size is 16oz. But I’m not complaining. It was a good coffee. I finished it in one sitting.

Iced Creamy Latte

My husband asked for Spanish latte and the barista mentioned that their Iced Creamy Latte is the closest drink that they could offer. Well, I tasted that it’s more of a Vietnamese latte because of the abundance of condensed milk and minimal to no amount of milk. Vietnamese latte is actually a better choice than Spanish latte so we ended up loving this. They were able to expose the notes of the coffee bean smoothly without any syrup. I’m assuming this has little to no sugar, which is great.

Iced White Chocolate Mocha

This is one of the best White Chocolate Mocha that I’ve tasted. Even though it’s white chocolate-flavored, it didn’t overpower the caffeine so I easily recognized that addicting flavor notes of the beans. The flavor is so crisp that it felt like I’m drinking a cold brew. This coffee, which I got from Mactan Cebu Airport branch, needed more ice though to meet that refreshing coldness. But other than the temperature, it was indeed a lovely coffee to take while waiting for the flight.

Ice-blanded Matcha Green Tea

The first thing I noticed in this Ice-blanded Matcha Green Tea was its texture. The ice was blended fine, making it wonderfully smooth. I almost couldn’t feel the ice since it was frothy. I like how they presented the flavor of Matcha. It was neither too creamy nor too earthy nor too sweet. It was just balanced. It had a long, lingering and pleasant aftertaste. I also had a taste of mom’s Ice-blended Strawberry and it was so good. The berry flavors was recognizable despite of being creamy.

Sugar Bacon Glazed

This is their take on the famous sugar-glazed donuts of Krispy Kreme. They made it different with the addition of bacon bits to brand it as Bo’s Coffee’s. The tweak was surprisingly a success. The bacon bits added some smokiness and it complemented the sweetness of the glaze. I just think it would be better if the bacon pieces were a bit bigger and not just toasted to bits so we could also feel the crunch in every bite, especially that the texture of donut was more bread-like than donut-like.

Bolognese | Arrabiata

The Bolognese was meaty and herby, which blended well with its tomato goodness. It has generous amount of ingredients from beef, to herbs to tomatoes. I like that it is very moist because of the oil. The pasta has good texture, too. I’m not a fan of spicy stuff but I ended up liking the Arrabiata more than the Bolognese though. Seeing the two pasta, I thought that there wouldn’t be much difference but Bo’s Coffee successfully gave distinctions on these two. The spiciness of Arrabiata touched the sauce and pasta very well. The tangy hints from the tomato was incredible.

Grilled Tuna Cheese Sandwich

I ordered for Grilled Tuna Cheese Sandwich mainly for the grilled cheese. However, the flavor of corned tuna was too much that I didn’t got any flavor of cheese, which is sad. I just enjoyed what I got because it was it was still yummy. The bread used is so great. It was toasted and thick yet soft in a good way. It was almost flavorless but I don’t know how I still find it very delicious. Although I wasn’t in the mood for too much tuna, I can’t deny that it was scrumptious. Whether they cooked the chips or bought the chips, it was also good.

Mocha Iced Brew

For our pandemic edition, here is Bo’s Coffee’s bottled Iced Brew, which I got from 7 Eleven. During the height of COVID-19, we couldn’t go to coffee shops and the least we could do is get bottled cold brews in convenience stores. While I couldn’t go to a physical store of Bo’s Coffee, I ordered an Iced Brew for the meantime. This Mocha Iced Brew is a delish one! I just think that it got more chocolate flavor than the strength of coffee, which is a no for a caffeine lover like me. But, I think, the fault is on me, because I should have chosen their other Iced Brews like Latte, Hazelnut or Macchiato.
