How I Make American Marshmallow Fruit Salad
In the Philippines, the common salads we hear, make and create are fruit cocktail salad, macaroni salad, buko or coconut salad and buko pandan. I never heard of Ambrosia Salad until I discovered it on Netflix’s Best Leftovers Ever! when a contestant tried to transform leftovers to Ambrosia Salad.
Ambrosia Salad is an American variety of cream fruit salad originating in Southern part of USA. Its typical toppings are mandarin orange, pineapple, marshmallows and shredded coconuts. Other fruits and creams can also be added. The name references the food of the Greek Gods.
When I learned about Ambrosia Salad, I had a that’s-easy look on my face. However, for the shredded coconut, I used toasted coconut instead because that’s what we have here today.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- mandarin orange
- pineapple tidbits
- marshmallows
- shredded coconut
- heavy cream
- sliced bananas
- cashew nuts
- crushed candy canes
- sugar
2. Mix one part of sugar to one part of heavy cream.
3. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients.
4. Mix the wet and dry ingredients. Actually, the only step is to mix all the ingredients. I just decided this into four to make my blog longer.
5. Your Ambrosia Salad is now done and ready to be served.
