Beati Hortus Cafe + Grill House: The Happy Garden For Coffee Lovers
Recently, I posted a short review about a newly opened cafe in Bongabong in my Facebook page. We were already there during the second day of its soft opening. Yep! We’re that quick! We had a very satisfying experience that I was thrilled to immediately share an initial review to my page. It usually takes a few visits and more dishes to try before I post a blog about a certain restaurant. But we just had two cups of iced coffee that time and I got a thought that this elegant cafe deserves to be shared and promoted. Girl, my post reached the whole province!
How could I not share this beauty? The facade alone of the building speaks a lot about its high quality. Every detail of the structure, including the interiors, is well-planned. As I said in my Facebook post, it’s giving me Tagaytay cafe feels minus the weather. It is situated in a quiet serene area so it’ll surely give its guests a relaxing stay. Customers can choose between bar or al fresco dining. I must say it’s the best cafe in Oriental Mindoro when it comes to aesthetics.
During our first visit, the staff was still in the process of learning. On our second visit a week later, I’m happy that they were already prompt and welcoming despite of the high number of guests. We were chitchatting with the baristas and it was evident that they are knowledgeable to what they are doing. They even let my friend do the latte art for his order. And they gave us a free cup of joe! That’s so sweet of them! I’m not sure but from the looks of it, I think, this is Cappuccino.

The Hot Cappuccino has a good balance of coffee and milk. It is unsweetened so I was able to focus on the nutty notes of the beans. Their frother also makes a good foam. On the other hand, their iced coffee has this lingering aroma that my palate enjoys. The Iced Latte has foamy milk, which gives the drink an added texture. The strong, but not too bitter, Iced Caramel Macchiato is blended well with just the right amount of sweetness from the caramel.

Our cafe experience won’t be complete without having the Beati Hortus frappes. The White Chocolate Frappe seemed to be the bestselling flavor among our group since my friends also tried the hot and iced coffee versions. For the frappe, the espresso was just mild but it is still present. It gave more way to the decadence of white chocolate. I like that ice was blended finely and the cream was hand whipped lightly making the drink posh. For the hot coffee, it has a subtle sweetness and it is more milky.

The cookie is not your usual palm-sized chocolate chip cookie but this chunky drop cookie from Beati Hortus is still a must-try. This small piece will surprise you with lots of stuff like walnuts and dark chocolate cuts. However, it has so much fillings that I couldn’t appreciate the cookie itself. And it would be better if the chocolate chunks were melted. I’m more of a cookie person but I liked the muffin better. It has triple chocolate yet it isn’t too sweet. Casa Estela of Calapan set our standard high when it comes to Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches so we weren’t really stunned with this. But Beati Hortus’ Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is undeniably luscious. Actually, if there is no Casa Estela, I would consider having this on my top list. They perfected the slenderness of the beefsteak slices. The meat is flavorful and the bread is soft. It would just be better, I guess, if it has more melted cheese and if they used more kinds of cheese.

Oh! I haven’t told you that the restaurant is also a grill house on another side. Awesome, right? My friend, who is a chef, ordered their Pork Belly BBQ and he approved it. The generously served pork is tender. You wouldn’t see the pork belly drenched in some kind of sauce because amazingly, the flavors were already infused to the meat. The meal was served with pickled vegetables, which I also found amusing because of the addition of jicama. Perhaps, the only problem in this plate is the soggy white rice.
Marinara Pasta
I am a person who likes the traditional version of Marinara Pasta, the one that has a fresh taste of tomatoes or tangy, in other words. But most people I know prefer a sweeter one so definitely, they will like Beati Hortus’ Marinara Pasta as this pasta isn’t too acidic. It has mild spiciness so my friends, who had a taste of my order, loved it even more. The Marinara sauce was quite dry but they made sure that its flavor was hugging the al dente Spaghetti and seafood toppings well.
Beati Egg Roll
The Beati Egg Roll seemed like simple roll to us but when my friends and I had a bite, we were nodding to each other indicating how good it was. It’s plain-looking but it’s unique. The rolls are thin but there were a lot of things going on inside. I can taste the meat, the veggies and the cheese all at once. Apart from the Beati Egg Roll, we also tried their Vietnamese Roll and it turned out just how we expected it to be. But I appreciate the freshness of the fillings. It showcased the natural flavors of carrots, lettuce and crab stick.
