Buon Appetito At Robby’s Cafeteria

Robby’s Cafeteria is one of the longest running restaurants in the town proper of Puerto Galera. We are focused so much on food establishments located at White Beach and Sabang Beach. Little did we know that there are still worth-visiting restaurants along the highway like Robby’s Cafeteria, an Italian restaurant located near Muelle Pier. Now, they also have a branch in Calapan.

Aside from being a restaurant, it’s also a wine center and a delicatessen so we’re sure to get imported goods on our plate.

Here are some of their dishes we ordered so far.

Hawaiian | Margherita | Campagnola

Hey! It’s an Italian restaurant! We immediately went for three pizza pies during our first dine at Robby’s Cafeteria! The Hawaiian wowed us with its cheesiness. It’s not salty yet it isn’t bland also, so it’s proportional in terms of taste. I could tell from the savor that the ham is a quality ingredient. The sweet tangy pineapple chunks balance everything. Margherita isn’t a thin-crust pizza but I’m amazed with its crispiness. I love the tartness brought by the tomato puree and the freshness of the real tomatoes. Yes! It’s topped with tomatoes in two ways. I can also munch some meat. I’m not sure but I definitely agree that it’s good. From the looks, it’s obvious that we received a generous serving of mushrooms from their Campagnola. However, since the toppings is pure mushroom, aside from cheese and tomato, the whole things becomes bland. The crust is too soggy that we can’t hold a slice without a plate. I’m not sure if their pizza is baked in a brick oven but there are charred areas and I appreciate them.

Aglio Olio Peperoncino | Penne Alla Salsiccia

Three pizzas and two pastas! These are what we had on our first visit in Robby’s Cafeteria. For a pasta as plain as Aglio Olio, I think they did a good job. It has a subtle touch of chilliness brought by the peperoncino and garlic, making it irresistible to eat. The Penne Alla Salsiccia was able to reveal the flavors of Italian sausage as there were big chunks of it. Although the texture of the sausage doesn’t fit the pasta, I still think that it’s yummy because of the cream sauce. Both penne and spaghetti are cooked al dente.

Bruschetta

There isn’t much to say about Robby’s Cafeteria’s Bruschetta because it is what it is. It’s just a plain grilled bread rubbed with garlic and olive oil and topped with chopped tomatoes. I like that the bread was thick and crispy but I was hoping that the bread itself has flavors and not just restricted on toppings. The flavor of the garlic is very dominating. I hope that it has more basil. The tomatoes are fresh and crunchy. As a whole, this appetizer can make one full already.

Salami Sandwich

It’s amazing that this sandwich doesn’t need too much sauce anymore since the lettuce and tomato slices are already providing some juices. The salami is flavorful. I can taste the smokiness from these thin rounds of meat. The bread is unsalted, which gave way to the flavors of the fillings. The restaurant is partly a delicatessen so there shall be no surprise that they use quality cheese for this. However, I still can’t help but recognize its sharp addicting taste.

Lamb Patty

It’s expected that the servings of Lamb Patty is small since it’s just a 200 gram patty. But a tip is to make the plate small so it wouldn’t look little. The patty is undeniably flavorful. It truly showcases the distinct flavors of a lamb meat. They cooked it well and the patty was tender and juicy. Perhaps, they could rub more salt and pepper before cooking because it’s bland even when dipped in the gravy. However, for an imported steak patty like, I just hope that they serve this with fresh potato fries and not the frozen ones.

Tiramisu | Panna Cotta

For dessert, these two famous Italian delights are available to end the luscious meal. I like that the espresso flavor of the Tiramisu was just mild so my non-coffee mom was able to enjoy it, too. It is filled with custard, making the ladyfingers moist. However, the flavors of java should have at least infused the bread. The Panna Cotta was made beautifully. It instantly melts in the mouth. I actually like it better without the sauce because the choice of sauce has this intesity in flavor.

Schublig

On their delicatessen side, we availed Schublig sausage, which we decided to cook at home. Again, to make things clear, this isn’t cooked by them. This is just sold frozen by them. And honestly, I don’t like it. I still prefer the homemade sausages because you can feel the freshness of the meat from it. Schublig is a smoked sausage and I can’t sense the smokiness here. I just don’t know about the other sausages and the sausages grilled in the restaurant.
