How I Make Candied Chestnuts

You know that it is near Christmas season in the Philippines when chestnuts are being brought by my mom to our house. We usually cook chestnuts by merely roasting them. But in other countries such as France, chestnuts are candied and are called Marrons Glaces. It can be an ingredient in many desserts. It can also be eaten on their own. This is what I want to recreate today.

However, let me just inform you that I’m using Philippine chestnut for this candy so compared to Marrons Glaces, I was able to make relatively small chestnut candies.

2. Cook chestnuts in boiling water.

3. Strain. Let it cool for a while. Peel the shells.

4. Dissolve sugar and vanilla into water and let this simmer for ten minutes.

5. Add the chestnuts and coat them with sugar syrup. 

6. Place chestnuts on a rack.

7. Bake in the oven.

8. Your Candied Chestnuts are now done and ready to be served.
