How I Make Argentinian Chorizo Sub Sandwich
I’m a fan of Netflix’s Street Food TV Series. Well, actually, I watch almost all Netflix reality shows about food because as a foodie, I naturally enjoy learning about them. Street Food: Asia, Street Food: Latin America and Street Food: USA are few of the documentaries that interest me because I got to explore cultural cuisines and street dishes around the world. Aside from the street food itself, the documentary features street food vendors and their history, which is intertwined with the big picture of how influential street food is on their native country.
The first episode of Street Food: Latin America presents some native chows of Buenos Aires, Argentina, which includes Choripan, a chorizo sub sandwich that is a popular street food in Argentina and a usual snack after watching football in stadiums. As we all know, football is Argentina’s biggest passion. At every football game, everyone eats Choripan.
Unlike any other subs, this chorizo sandwich doesn’t have much toppings or sauces. Chimichurri, an Argentinian herb sauce, is enough to complete this ultimate street food.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- 1 baguette
- chorizo sausages
- 1/4 cup parsley
- 1/4 cup cilantro
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp red cane vinegar
- onion
- garlic
- salt
- pepper
- butter
2. Chop the garlic. Slice or pickle the onion.
3. Let’s first make the Chimichurri by processing parsley, cilantro, chopped garlic, salt, pepper and olive oil. Set this aside.
4. The actual cooking of Chorizo in Choripan os through grilling. But since ae don’t have a grill in our house, let me just cook it in a electric panini grill.
5. Cut baguette into portions and slice each in half.
6. Toast baguette slices. Don’t forget to brush butter to the grill before putting the bread.
7. Fill baguette slices with Chorizo.
8. Top with the herb mixture and pickled onions.
9. Your Choripan is now done and ready to be served.
