How I Make Roasted Tea Latte
I’m already familiar with the name Roasted Milk Tea before since I’ve seen it on menus of some famous milk tea shops like Chatime. But before, I wasn’t fully knowledgeable about the drink and how it is specifically done.
Upon searching, I knew that the tea leaves used in brewing this milk tea is simply roasted. This is done to improve the flavors of the tea as the process burns away bitterness and caffeine. Instead, it gives a nutty, toasty and sweet flavor notes to the tea, which is even better when milk is added.
While there are currently many types of roasted teas in the world, Hōjicha from Japan is the one that started it all. But Hojicha leaves are already roasted when sold at market. In this tea latte recipe, we’ll start by roasting the leaves.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- black tea leaves
- milk
- sugar
2. Roast tea leaves in a pan with sugar at a very low heat.
3. Once the sugar has melted, pour the milk. Brew and simmer for ten minutes.
4. Strain.
5. Your Roasted Tea Latte is now done and ready to be served.
