How I Make Japanese Strawberry Cream Cheese Sandwich
I haven’t been to Japan, not even in a Japanese-inspired convenience store located in the Philippines. But based on vlogs featuring Japanese convenience stores, it seems fun to visit one because of the great unusual finds. Imagine! They have a self-heating cup noodles! If that doesn’t interests you, I don’t know what anymore.
Aside from instant ramen, there are also Onigiri, a Japanese rice ball wrapped in seaweed; Yakisoba Bun, a hoagie filled with Yakisoba noodles; Mochifuwa Pancake, a pancake that is already filled with butter and pancake syrup; Bento Sets and Fruit Sando, a sandwich with fruit and cream fillings beautifully arranged between bread slices.
I just want to think that I’m one step closer to these awesome convenience store treats when I make one myself.
In Japan, sando is essentially short for sandwich so when I say Japanese Fruit Sando, it actually refers to fruit sandwich. A popular fruit to use is strawberry, which is then called Strawberry Sando. What makes these sandwich unique is the mosaic design that’s revealed when cut in half.
Let’s make this sandwich so you’ll see.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed. This yields to 12 servings.
- 1/4 kilo strawberries
- 12 white bread slices
- 1/4 kilo cream cheese
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp lemon extract
2. Make the cream by combining and whipping cream cheese, cream, sugar, salt, vanilla and lemon extract together.
3. Remove leaves of strawberries.
4. You also have to prepare cling wrap. Place bread slices on a cut of cling wrap. Spread some cream cheese filling.
5. Arrange strawberries in the middle.
6. Plot with more cream cheese filling. This doesn’t look good. But it will be good afterwards.
7. Cover with another slice of bread and wrap with cling wrap. Place in fridge to cool.
8. Slice sandwich in the middle. Cut out the sides, too.
9. Your Japanese Strawberry Sando is now done and ready to be served.
