How To Make Orange Chicken
It’s the 198th day of quarantine period in our region and if there’s another dish that I truly miss, it is the Orange Chicken of Panda Express. When we think of Orange Chicken, Panda Express would always be the first thing that comes to mind. Although copycats our sprouting everywhere, the original will always be the best.
These chicken slices tossed in a fusion of sweetness and tanginess is simply unique and iconic. The citrus blends delicately with the crispy chicken. This Chinese dish is definitely a must-try. But since the community quarantine is still ongoing, I hope it’s alright to be one of the copycats for the meantime and make Orange Chicken first by ourselves.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- 1/2 kilo chicken breast
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 1/3 cup orange marmalade
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 tbsp salt + 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp pepper
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup cornstarch and 1/2 tsp cornstarch
- 3/4 cups water
- 1 tbsp oil and more oil frying
- sesame seeds or chia seeds
2. Wash, debone and slice chicken breast.
3. Combine flour, half tablespoon salt, pepper and half cup cornstarch.
4. Mix in egg, water and a tablespoon of oil.
5. Fold in sliced chicken into batter and place in fridge for 30mins.
6. Fry until the skin turns golden brown. Drain chicken on paper towels to remove excess oil.
7. While letting the chicken rest, cook orange juice, orange marmalade, a teaspoon of cornstarch and a teaspoon of salt over medium heat.
8. When the orange mixture started to simmer, add the fried chicken pieces into the pan. Mix until the sauce becomes thick and coats the chicken.
9. Remove from heat. Drizzle some sesame seeds or chia seeds on top.
10. Your Orange Chicken is now done and ready to be served.
