Jin Joo Korean Grill: Savor The KBBQ Goodness

This photo was taken five years ago after I graduated college. We had a mini celebration at the Mall of Asia branch of Jin Joo Korean Grill and it was also the first time I dined in this Korean BBQ. From that day, I was able to visit twice already and it’s enough to give my final verdict.

As said, Jin Joo Korean Grill is an establishment that serves authentic Korean cuisine. The restaurant boasts a modern and sleek ambiance with a minimalist interior design that exudes sophistication. This vibrancy is one of the factors on why customers get attracted to dine in.

Jin Joo Korean Grill is one of those Korean restaurants that offer unlimited premium pork, beef and chicken for barbecuing. However, whenever we’re here, we ditch this offer and choose to focus on the quality of the meat instead on the quantity we must eat in one sitting. Hence, Jin Joo’s a la carte and bundled dishes are featured in this blog.

8 Flavors Samgyupsal consists of rolls of Australian pork bellies marinated in eight different ways for customers’ total enjoyment. It’s like a sampler but in Samgyeopsal version. I was attracted with the color because the meats were vibrant when raw. Visually, each flavors weren’t recognizable anymore but through taste, they are distinct, especially the Curry since it has strong coconut taste. The spiciness stuck well in the Chilli. The Herb has this fragrant aroma. I like the Soybean the best because of its funky, sour and salty flavor. However, each roll is fatty so it got us satiated afterwards.

For this package, it is bountiful when it comes to ready-to-eat items. Aside from meat, we got big servings of Japchae, Pajeon and Doenjng Jjigae. However, it only has four thick cuts of pork and four platters of beef strips. But the fact that they are graded USDA prime makes the set worthy. The beef was tender while the pork took long to cook. I was looking for Ssamjang and sesame oil at first but I realized that the meat dishes were already flavorful on their own that they didn’t require dips anymore. The flavor is so prominent. It comes out, attacks my palate and touches my soul.

Japchae

I felt the need to have a separate review for Japchae because it’s so good. Well-made Japchae should have a balanced sweet and savory flavor, crunchy vegetable texture and bouncy noodle texture. That’s exactly how Jin Joo’s Japachae felt and tasted like. It’s a proof that this Korean restaurant isn’t just incredible in making Samgyeopsal, but also, in cooking other Korean dishes. There was also Pajeon in the package. I like the sumptuous flavor but not the oiliness.

Nori Nachos with Pulled Pork

The nachos is supposed to be the dinner’s appetizer but it arrived when we already finished the soup. I’m just glad that their nachos was incredible. Turning nori into nacho chips was a brilliant idea. So even though it was only topped with a little pulled pork, cheese sauce and mayo drizzle, the nachos is already flavorful. The rest of the chips were also fried in house so that’s a plus point for me. The barbecue flavors of the pulled pork blended with the chips. I got the crunch and munch for lunch all bunching up in my mouth with this Jin Joo’s nori nachos.

Jeongol Bulgogi

The waiter said that the Jeongol Bulgogi is good for five persons. Are you joking? The serving is just enough for me and my mom. It looks many because the pot was shallow. But truly, there were plenty of thinly-sliced sukiyaki beef, thin glass noodles and vegetable varieties that were arranged beautifully so we enjoyed the soup a lot. You know that you got the authentic sukiyaki broth when it has the right sweetness and beefy goodness. Each ingredient also contributes their distinct textures and flavors, satisfying my palate and my tummy

Budae Jigae

I’m actually biased when it comes to Buddae Jiggae because it’s a stew like no other. I can’t think of another soup that is this abundant. I’m just happy that Jin Joo gave the Army Stew a justice. By simply looking at the amount of components in this, I know that every slurp is going to be an experience. I appreaciate the large trumpet mushrooms because it provides natural earthy touch. It’s evident from the flavors of the chosen sausage, Spam and ramen noodles that they top grade. Damn! The mild spiciness for them is still strong for us.

Beef Bibimbap

It’s a takeout so I understand that the presentation couldn’t justify the food in plastic boxes but they can actually do better than this. After all, there are disposable bowls that has wider opening now. They can present this in a true bibimbap style. Moreover, in this way, the bibimbap is hard to mix. The sauce also doesn’t flow proportionally to the rice.  Even when mixed, the flavor is still lacking. You can tell at how dry it was. The beef was covered by the large amount of rice. I had a bite of the meat before mixing and I can’t deny that the quality is there. The thinly-sliced meat was sweet and delish.

Berry Dalandan | Citrus Guyabano

They got the right mix of fruits for both of these drinks. It’s my first time to encounter dalandan with berry and guyabano with citrus. These fusions are the least ones that I can think of pairing so I can’t believe how refreshingly amazing these are. Citrus Guyabano felt natural with all the fruit saps still in it. The Berry Dalandan’s taste has resemblance to red iced tea but this gave more organic feels. Both were just mildly sweetened so you wouldn’t have any guilt in drinking them.
