LiberTea: Liquid Happiness
Last time, we talked about Army Navy and how luscious their Mexican dishes are. We also found out that the establishment now owns more restaurant brands namely Pizza Telefono, LiberTea, Rice Rocket and Wright Wings. This blog is to learn more about Army Navy’s sister brands, starting with LiberTea.
As its name suggests, LiberTea is Army Navy’s brand for their iced teas. The surge of milk tea in the Philippine market is significantly great that some existing restaurants added milk tea drinks on their menu and introduced their own line of teas. With this, LiberTea of Army Navy was also created.
While we order meals at Army Navy either in their branches or through Grab, I also grab the opportunity to taste some of the milk teas of LiberTea. Here are what I tried so far.
Classic
It’s just a Classic Milk Tea but we ordered this because of the elegant jar packaging. I think most customers have this purpose, too. As for the milk tea, I’m alright on having strong tea to my milk tea but I don’t like the bitter after taste this brings. The pearls are perfectly chewy. Milk tea in this kind of packaging means that it can be stored. I just wonder if the pearls will stay soft if we store it first before consuming. Among their classic flavors, I also ordered Wintermelon once. It’s not bad, but there are a lot of other options for great wintermelon milk tea that we’d rather go for.
Brown Sugar
As for Libertea signature flavors, I chose to try their Brown Sugar. Like most brown sugar milk teas out there, this also has brown sugar syrup on the side formed like tiger prints. But since I had this for delivery, the syrup all went down and that is totally understandable. After all, I wanted to focus more on how the milk tea tastes like. It’s pretty sweet compared to other brown sugar milk tea I’ve tried so I recommend pairing this with any salty snack from Army Navy. The brown sugar is overpowering. The flavor of the tea just emerges towards the end.
Matcha Cream Cheese
This is what we filipinos call, “milk na may konting matcha.” The whole thing literally tastes like Bear Brand so, basically, the flavor is all milk. I can’t figure the earthiness of the matcha in this jar. The thing they call cream cheese doesn’t have a hint of cheese at all either. It’s just merely whipped cream. And if they added cream cheese to a drink, they must make the matcha base stronger so the matcha and cream cheese would just be balanced. The ombre of green and white colors was attractive on the design of jar though.
Agua Fresca
The first thing I noticed in Libertea’s Agua Frescas is the sparkling water effect on it. This is not what I expected. I thought that it would just be a water-based drink, sweetened with flavorings, like the Mexican Agua Fresca I know. For the strawberry flavor, the berry flavor can only be tasted at the end of drinking since the soda was dominating. I like the cucumber better since it got the flavors I’m looking. It is infused with lemon tanginess and the flavors of cucumber. But If you’ll ask me, I’m just buy Sprite.
Iced Tea
I only get to buy Libertea Iced Tea in Army Navy shops and not in Libertea online stores. Last year, it was just served in paper cups. Today, it’s in thick plastic bottles that is as equally aesthetic as their glass jars. Anyway, I’m glad that the iced tea is a combination of sweet and earthy. It has hint of lime and honey-like sweetness. But the tea is the most dominant in this mixture as how it should be. It feels like they were freshly brewed since it was totally strong. Overall, the Libertea iced tea is good. I hope they can do the same with their milk teas.
