Malay Dynastea: “Kenapa Saya Tidak Akan Kembali”
Last Thursday was a friend of friend’s Pares house’s soft opening day in Victoria. As supportive friends who have spacious tummies, the barkada rode their way to the town to have a taste of their pares and mami. The stall of Para Pares is located in a small food stop, where a branch of Malay Dynastea is also situated.
We already visited Malay Dynastea in their main branch in Calapan and the experience isn’t quite good. But since the milk tea shop is on a buy-one-take-one anniversary treat during that day, we gave it another try. We had Iced Green Apple Tea and Ipoh Matcha in their Victoria branch and the drinks are still meh. I’m still asking myself why we ordered here again after having bad Red Velvet Rock Salt & Cheese, Salted Caramel Cheesecake and Bacsilog in their Calapan branch. Read further for a detailed review.

We tried both Honey Green Apple Tea and Green Apple Tea and actually, there isn’t much difference. Even the sweetness or perhaps, the tanginess, of the honey isn’t recognizable in the latter. There is an intensity in flavor that is triggering the lining of my throat. The jasmine tea is overbrewed and is mixed with excessive green apple flavoring. My friends who ordered the same drinks said the same sentiments.

As I always say, there are two types of matcha in our country – the matcha-strong one and the creamy one. This is not among those two as this tastes mostly like condensed milk, not milk and not even the matcha tea. Perhaps, this is how they make it in Malaysia and I’m not just familiar. I was bothered when they asked if I like to put black tea or green tea because for what I know, we only put hot water to matcha because matcha is already a tea on its own.
Balduh Merah Garam Batu & Keju (Red Velvet Rock Salt & Cheese)
Oooh! I used to see rock salt & cheese as a topping and not a walling so Malay Dynastea’s Garam Batu & Keju is quite different for me. However, it is supposed to be salty so it would balance the sweet milk tea but sadly, it just added more sweetness to the drink. I find the milk tea base thick in texture and heavy. I guess it has too much red velvet flavoring resulting to overly sugared drink to the point that it pains the throat.
Karamel Masin Kek Keju (Salted Caramel Cheesecake)
The same goes with their Salted Caramel. At 100% sugar level, it’s too sweet. The ratio of salt to caramel isn’t proportional since I could feel the caramel more. I’m glad that it has thick cheesecake walling that toned down the sweetness a very little bit since their Kek Keju is sweet, too. And can I confirm if this is a milk tea? If yes, I couldn’t taste the tea. The tapioca pearls are good but could be better.
Dendeng Babi Telur (Bacsilog)
I’m sorry but due to frustration, I think, I have to do a collage and post the photo of their bacsilog from their poster and the photo of the bacsilog I actually got, side by side, in order to compare. It’s really disappointing. It lacks bacon and cheese. The egg isn’t presentable. The bowl is full of loose rice. Tastewise, it still wasn’t able to redeem itself as expected. We were expecting some Ate Rica levels here and we were just served with this.
