Moonleaf: Good Vibes In A Cup

It’s the 216th day of quarantine period in our region and for the third time since March, I was able to leave our province. We’re still under Enhanced General Community Quarantine and we can get out of Mindoro as long as we’ll come back within 24 hours. I know it’s tiring but going into food trips in Manila within that span of time, it’s actually worth it. But during our last visit, we had an appointment with Mitsubishi and bought some stocks for Breen in Landers. By the time we finished our activities, most establishments are already closed. It’s a good thing that Moonleaf in Oriental Gardens is open 24 hours a day even during lockdown. So before we left Manila, we booked our Moonleaf orders through GrabFood and hoarded milk teas so we can stock them at home.

Here are our orders.

Jasmine Green Tea

I really don’t like iced black tea or green tea that are unflavored. I just gave this Moonleaf’s Jasmine Green Tea a try and I wished I didn’t. The flavor of the tea is intense. It’s actually stronger than the hot Jasmine tea I brew during mornings. But that’s just me. People who love pure tea would like this.

Chocolate Peppermint

I must say that this is another best of Moonleaf, especially that Choclate Pepperment is rarely available in milk tea shops. The Chocolate milk tea base is velvety in texture like as if it’s made with cocoa sweetened into a great chocolate. The mint is a good addition. It’s like I’m drinking chocolate and eating candy cane at the same time. It’s addicting!

Matcha Eggnog Milkslush

I like the flavor of Matcha in this drink. It’s not too milky nor too sweet. Yet, it’s also not a bitter green tea. Perhaps, it was toned down because of the milkor the eggnog. However, I couldn’t grasp the flavors of eggnog. Even a hint of nutmeg isn’t here. But having this, I think they have good Matcha milk tea.

Brown Sugar Milk Tea

Oh wow! This is a definition of a brown sugar milk tea. Despite of being flavored as such, the sugar is just on point since the tea is present and was able to balance the sweetness. Of course, it won’t be complete without black pearls that are soaked in brown sugar syrup. Not everythig in their menu has pearls but I’m glad that their Brown Sugar Milk Tea has it.

Iced Hazelnut Latte

As a coffee addict, I admit that this iced latte is kinda meh. When I had my first sip, I only had one question in mind. Did I just get a tantamount hazelnut flavoring from this cup? That’s how it taste like. There’s minimal to no caffeine in this cup. It’s not creamy, too. Well, the hazelnut is good. But I’m looking for coffee. 

Lychee Yakult

So far, this is one of the best fruit-flavored Yakult drink that I have tasted. They did not overuse the flavoring of lychee yet the Yakult is not overpowering. It’s a perfect balance, actually. And even without the label, you would easily identify the flavors. Other milk tea shops don’t have the right mix for my taste buds. Their Yakult drinks usually end up sour.

Pomegranate Lemonade

Pomegranate fruits are usually tart with a bit of sweetness. This drink perfectly resembles the flavors I’m looking for. The lemon juice surely added acidity to this Pomegranate Lemonade. However, my boyfriend thinks that the lemon part doesn’t taste natural. I wonder if they make this with real lemons or with lemon syrup. Either way, it is good.

Papaya Milk Tea

I was really curious on how this would go. It’s my first time to try this flavor for a milk tea. Well, it got the taste of papaya but it was minimal because the milk and tea was strong. It has a bitter aftertaste like what papaya fruits have. If you think that this is huge, well, they have bigger milk teas like this. I would definitely try the Gallon Milk Tea next time

Ube Custard

The ube tastes like I Love Milk Tea’s Taro, which is my boyfriend’s favorite in the said milk tea shop. But this milk tea from Moonleaf’s Merry Together Christmas Line leveled up because of the custard. I can imagine the sweetness and creaminess of the custard but sadly, mine turned into pudding because I stocked it in fridge. But it was a delectable pudding.

Caramel Cookie Crunch

They say that the milk tea they used for this is cookie-infused. I somehow got that from this drink. I suggest to drink this immediately after ordering so you can enjoy the crunchy cookie bits. I wasn’t expecting much from the pearl since I drank it two days agter I ordered but I was surprised to still get soft pearls. And a serving has a lot of pearls, too.
