How I Make Japanese Rice Omelette
Omurice is a Japanese dish consisting of omelette made with fried rice and thin runny scrambled eggs. I’ve seen how this masterpiece is done on TikTok clips and Netflix documentaries and it requires precision when cooking. It is wobbly when placed over rice and creamy and fluffy when flapped open. As a person who prefers undercooked eggs, I find this really attractive.
After years of thinking about Omurice and wondering how a simple scrambled egg or omelette can be this complicated to cook, I had the guts of making Japan’s Omurice for the first time.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/3 cup vegetable mix
- 1/4 cup some sort of meat
- salt
- pepper
- demi-glace sauce
- parsley
2. Sauté vegetable mix and some sort of meat, which, in my case, is pepperoni.
3. Add the cooked rice. This was the time when I realized that I picked the wrong pan. It should be in wok, guys.
4. Omurice is usually filled with ketchup-flavored rice so we put ketchup and soy sauce as well.
5. Once cooked, mold rice into a cup.
6. In another dish, beat eggs and season with salt and pepper.
7. Heat oil in pan and pour the beaten eggs. As I’ve seen in videos, the scrambled eggs are beaten non-stop so it won’t be cooked fast. I made sure that the fire was in low heat.
8. Once it reached this cooked yet runny doneness, roll or flip the egg.
9. Place this wobbly thing over rice and slice it open so it would slide over rice. Yay! I made it! It’s not bad for a first try.
10. Drizzle with demi-glace sauce and parsley.
11. Your Omurice is now done and ready to be served.
