熱烈酒場 ドンちゃん: Passionate Tavern In Shinjuku


It’s been two months since the last time I set foot in Tokyo and I don’t have any other wish apart from visiting an izakaya, raising beers with friends and eating authentic Japanese bar chows.

One of my favorite pub in Shinjuku is just a few steps away from our hotel. If it seems that Golden Gai is too loud for you, a more laid-back bar, named 熱烈酒場 ドンちゃん, soma without prescription COD  is situated in between the skyscrapers of Nishi-Shinjuku.

We used Google translate and it is spelled as Netsuretsu Sakaba Donchan in English alphabet. It is translated to Passionate Tavern Donchan or Enthusiastic Tavern Donchan in English. But I don’t think it can be called as such because it isn’t its direct term so we’ll retain how the restaurant is originally spelled in my blog.

鴨ロース ( Soma fast delivery no doctors Duck Loin)

As we sat, the server gave us this appetizer that comes with a cover charge. It’s part of their system, as mentioned on their menu. Well, we didn’t complain because the duck loin was done beautifully. It was so delicious that we requested for another bowl. I wasn’t sure if it was available for sale because I didn’t see duck loin on their menu but they were kind enough to grant our request to have another serving. It was my first time eating raw duck and I couldn’t imagine being this obsessed with its marvelous flavors.Let’s just say that it is a charge to experience.

I thought I’m already familiar with the flavor of salmon sashimi as this dish is my usual pick whenever I’m in a Japanese restaurant in my country. But this sashimi right here is on a whole new level. Aside from the subtle briny flavor, the taste is kinda creamy and delicate. Just like the tuna sashimi, after catching fresh, it was only sliced and went straight to our table so I could totally munch the freshness. Each slices were big, too. The condiment served wasn’t too salty. It was just right to blend with the light essence of the fish.

For the assorted sashimi, they gave us their Tuna Sashimi, Seared Skipjack Tuna Slices and Broiled Pickled Mackerel. The Tuna Sashimi was evidently fresh. It’s like I took a bite of a live tuna. That’s how fresh it is! It didn’t even undergo a freezing process! It was the freshest sashimi I’ve tried in my life and the flavor is heavenly. The other tuna type was lightly seared so I felt a little strands from it but I could still savor the freshness. On the other hand, the Broiled Pickled Mackerel is flaky and soft. Compared to tuna, mackerel is slightly sweet and salty.

お任せの五本盛り(Assorted Grilled Skewers of Five Kinds)

As first-timers in Japan, we were hungry to try everything and the Assorted Grilled Skewers of Five Kinds was the best choice to taste many 熱烈酒場 ドンちゃん’s skewers at once. The chicken thigh was tender in a medium well doneness. The liver and the gizzard were soft as well yet amazingly, they weren’t brittle enough to come off easily from their sticks. The liver tastes just similar to what we have in the Philippines while the Japan’s version of gizzard wasn’t chewy. I can’t recognize the last skewer but it has irresistible smokiness that bursts in mouth once eaten. It has flavorful fatty parts.

軟骨1一本 (Soft Chicken Bone)

Soft Chicken Bone was also part of the Assorted Grilled Skewers of Five Kinds but it was so good that we ordered it again on our next visit. At first, I thought that I was munching some sort of vegetables because of its appearance and surprising tenderness. But it was chicken cartilage! It added crunch to the barbecued chicken. The meat part was also incredible. I specifically like the charred areas. The skewers were just smothered with small amount of sweet sauce but it’s already flavorful. It blended with the chicken really well.

熱熟餃孑 (Grilled Dumplings on an Iron Plate)

The first thing I noticed here is the thick wrapper, which is opposite to the Japanese dumplings sold in the Philippines. Nevertheless, it gave the dumplings a chewy consistency and it contained a large amount of meat fillings as each pieces were big. I just a platter has more dumplings. The ground meat inside was juicy and luscious. It was obviously seared for too long on one side. There’s a little bitterness but the burnt area added some smoky flavor, which blended with the accompanying soy sauce. It made me a fan of gyoza for a time.

Fries

When you’re drinking and having fun in an izakaya, it’s easy to lose track of what you’re ordering like as if the food is free-flowing. Apart from all these sashimi and yakitori, the most unexpected addition to our spread was a simple plate of fries. I honestly didn’t expect much from it. The photo on the menu depicted what looked like your typical frozen, pre-cut fries that you could easily fry up, just like what we had at home. Despite its simplicity, the fries served their purpose well. They provided a familiar, comforting bite that fit seamlessly between the rounds of laughter and conversation.

Asahi Beer

I’m honestly not familiar how one beer differs to another beer. So I’m not the one to ask how good their Asahi is. But I have here my friends, who are alcoholic drinkers, and they praised 熱烈酒場 ドンちゃん’s Asahi for its quality taste the moment they had their first gulp. It was evident from its taste that the beer was freshly crafted. The exact terms to describe were clean, crisp and downright refreshing. On my part, I must say that the beer mug is hella big! A serving is indeed plentiful.
