Remedios Cafe: From Our Passion To Your Plate

It’s the 366th day of quarantine period in our region. While many establishments, including restaurants, closed down because of the crisis, there are also a number of stores, which are built during this time. In fact, this is the year when food parks, online bakeshops and cafes became a hit in Pinamalayan. As a foodie, I’ve got my favorite among the new restaurants in my hometown – Remedios Cafe.

Some may think that the restaurant is branded as such because of the street, with the same name, located near the cafe, but it’s actually the owner’s name. Remedios Cafe offers dishes that are similar to West Asian’s with a twist of Filipino touch. But Remedios Cafe’s shawarmas and kebabs are different because the flavors are closer to the authentic. The owner worked in Saudi Arabia, if I remembered it correctly, so it’s like she brought the real thing in Pinamalayan. Isn’t it obvious that I visited the restaurant quite frequently to know these stories?

Shawarma

Either you choose beef or chicken for your shawarma, for sure, you’ll finish the plate with a satisfied palate. A serving seems small but believe me, one wrap is enough to make you full since it is generously filled with flavorful meat and well-seasoned fries. Yes! There is fries in this shawarma. That’s another reason to love Remedios Cafe. The shawarma is already savory on its own that I sometimes forgot to dip in garlic yogurt.

Chicken Kebab

I’m not into chicken, honestly, but I don’t know. I’m in love with this Chicken Kebab. It got the spices and flavors of the Middle East and, at the same time, adapted the likings and preference of Filipino taste. That includes the toned-down spiciness of the dish. The fries and tortilla wrap are well-seasoned. Its food presentation is distinct. When we see hanging kebab in Facebook, we immediately know that it’s from Remedios Cafe.

Pizza Margherita with Fries

Oooh! I think, the Arabic food goes Italian with Pizza Margherita. The fusion features a pita bread as crust for this tomato-cheese-basil toppings. I’m a person who opts for thin-crust pizza so I love the idea of using pita bread because it made the pizza crispier. The toppings didn’t disappoint, too. It’s cheesy. It got all the flavors and texture that I am looking. I recommend pairing your food with their Calamansi with Basil. It’s natural and refreshing.

Buffalo Wings

We know that Buffalo wing is an American thing but it’s amazing that Remedios Cafe also puts a hint of Mediterranean flavors into the wings by using some spices. It became distinct compared to the other Buffalo wings I’ve tried since it has this burst of flavors from different herbs or from whatever they put in it. I’m glad that these flavors reach not the skin but also the meat and the bones. The spiciness suits very well, too.

Chocolatey Champorado

I like how they transformed the famous Pinoy chocolate rice porridge into a dessert. How does it differ? It actually taste the same but colder. However, if you’re going to ask me, I’d still prefer the hot Champorado with lots of milk in it. Don’t get me wrong. This is delicious. I just prefer the traditional. Speaking of desserts, I also recommend their Leche Flan. It’s thick and texture and it has the right sweetness.
