Spotify’s Best Songs For Travel 2018
A lot of stuff happened in 2018 from good to bad. But one thing is fore sure. The year ended with another roll of great songs.
I know this is a food and travel blog but it itches me not to publish and share my top ten songs for the year 2018. After all, music is part of our travel. When we’re at the beach chilling, on mountains while hiking, at glamping spots while watching the campfire, in the car on our way to our destinations, at the terminal while waiting for our ride or in an airplane going to farther locations, we equip our earphones, open the Spotify app and listen to music like as if they are our companion during the trip.
Listed below are my most listened songs in my Spotify travel playlist.
10. These Days – Rudimental feat. Jess Glyne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen
Undoubtedly, Rudimental, Jess Glyne, Macklemore and Dan Caplen gave us a wonderful collaboration like as if they were a boyband. Their voices blend well. And when they sing altogether, These Days brings out nostalgia. It reminds us of the better times in our lives. Time will pass, but this song will never get old.
9. The Middle – Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey
I don’t know anything about Maren Morris and Grey but that doesn’t hinder on having their song on my list. As always, Zedd’s touch of EDM into it was amazing. I can’t help but bop to the beat whenever I hear it. I first heard The Middle in a Youtube vlog of Angie Mead King and it caught my ears. It wasn’t in the hit charts that time yet.
8. 2002 – Anne-Marie
There’s no question why Anne-Marie’s 2002 hit the music charts this 2018. It was one of Anne-Marie’s most successful singles worldwide. It’s a carefree pop love song. I initially thought that 2002’s lyrics has resemblance to Ed Sheeran’s word before knowing that he is one of the song’s composers. We need more songs like this!
7. Solo – Jennie
Jennie’s going Solo! Just like other BlackPink’s songs, Solo is a mix of dance, pop, hiphop and EDM. It’s totally good that I remember having a last song syndrome with it. I couldn’t erase the tune in my mind. Even the dance steps were playing in my head. With this, I’m also looking forward to other BlackPink members’ debut solo singles!
6. This Feeling – The Chainsmokers feat. Kelsea Ballerini
I’m a fan of The Chainsmokers and I memorize almost all of their songs since the duo’s #Selfie era. But This Feeling hits differently, especially when I heard its refreshed version in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2018. The song makes me wanna dance and party! This Feeling was also a great way to introduce Kelsea Ballerini as a new artist to watch for.
5. I’m a Mess – Bebe Rexha
Bebe Rexha is such an underrated artist and yet she consistently give us incredible music. I remember, her “In The Name of Love” was also in my Spotify’s Best Songs for Travel 2016. I’m a Mess’ tone and lyrics are catchy. In her raspy voice and beautiful song, Bebe Rexha tells us to accept our own imperfection and to celebrate them rather than dwell on them.
4. Buwan – juan karlos
Finally, after his The Voice Kids stint in 2014, Juan Karlos, or JK Labajo, got the recognition he deserved through his song, Buwan. I must say the Juan Karlos is one those Filipino artists who relive OPM. He has this distinct style of singing that makes his listeners emotional. Buwan is a masterpiece. It’s like he was storytelling through this song.
3. Girls Like You – Maroon 5 feat. Cardi B.
Maroon 5 never failed to give us good music since the early 2000s even they sometimes switch from rock to pop. It’s amazing that they have this consistency over the years. Girls Like You is extra special because the music video promotes feminism. Behati Prinsloo, together with their daughters, is also in the video so it truly touched my heart.
2. no tears left to cry – Ariana Grande
Of course, I won’t finish the list without having an entry from my all-time favorite singer. But I’m not being biased here. When I heard Ariana Grande’s No Tears Left to Cry, I think it truly deserve a spot here. It even gained positive reviews from critics. Aside from having catchy beat, the song is also sentimental because it’s dedicated to the victims of Manchester Arena Terror Attack.
1. Dreamer – Axwell Λ Ingrosso
I admit I’m not familiar with this Swedish DJ duo but I’m so hooked with their song that I made it on top of my list, beating my favorite artist’s song. Apart from being an EDM song, I think it also fits the musical theatre stage. Being a dreamer, I can feel something about this song that gives hope to keep on moving forward despite the falls.
