Spotify’s Best Songs For Travel 2019

We’ve come to the end of the year again. It has been my routine to share my annual top ten songs.

I know this is a food and travel blog, not a music blog. But who cares? I literally just searched the importance of music into travel so I can justify to myself that this topic is alright in my blog. It says that “Stopping to take photos, discover exciting sites, and learn about the culture of the place you are visiting are some of the things that make a trip enjoyable. However, there is one thing that almost everyone considers the best thing to do while traveling – listening to music. Whether you are traveling on land, water, or air, the presence or absence of music can completely change your travel experience.”

Therefore, let’s expose this year’s good songs, which is a lot, but I have to choose only ten.

You Need to Calm Down, along with the rest of Taylor Swift’s songs in her Lover album, is pure happiness. You could feel that Taylor has graduated from writing songs about her exes and she was just happy right now. Mad props to the production team of the music video! The video is colorful and vibrant. The LGBTQ+ community would be elated to receive such dedication.

After the huge success of Sunflower, Post Malone is back in Billboards with his song, Circles, which is equally satisfying in the ears. Despite of being a rapper, I’m impressed that Post Malone can pull off a downtempo pop rocks song like this. It has that acoustic groove that anyone will love. It gives me a nostalgic feeling of roadtripping since the song hits different when played in car.

8. Into the Unknown – Idina Menzel and Aurora

In all honesty, I’m so fed up with all things about Frozen because it’s everywhere. Every female kids I meet would ask me to play Frozen clips in Youtube. If you’ll ask me, Moana is a better Disney fairytale movie than Frozen. But I can’t deny that the movie has a marvelous tracks and Into the Unknown is indeed magical. Aurora was just humming a single syllable all throughout the song yet it sounded ethereal.

7. I Don’t Care – Ed Sheeran feat. Justin Bieber

When Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber collide, it’s like an explosion of talents, causing an incredible music. I Don’t Care is a mix of Ed’s sharp and Justin’s smooth voice. It’s a combination of warm lyrics and high quality so the song isn’t hard to love. In terms of message, it’s the perfect song for people who are satisfied with what they have. Just loving life that is surrounded by good people and good vibes.

6. Don’t Start Now – Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is always a banger! She serves vocal and unique songs. I can’t count how many great songs she produced this year and every year. Don’t Start Now stood out because we’ve been hearing pop and EDM nowadays. This song uses disco sounds, which reminds us of the good music during the 80s. The base line of the song is so catchy and super funky. Overall, it has the power to make us dance.

5. Araw-Araw – Ben&Ben

Oh Ben&Ben! You are one of the OPM’s lifesaver. Thank you for making the Filipino music alive again! I couldn’t think of a better Filipino singing duo other than this twin. Their voice blending undeniably sounds magical. In their song, Araw-Araw, one will hear the twin’s musical skills on creating wise lyrical composition featuring deep Filipino language and catchy indie folk instrument arrangements.

4. Post Malone – Sam Feldt feat. Rani

There’s another Post Malone on this list. This time, it’s not the singer, but a single created by Sam Feldt and Rani. The thing I like about today’s music is the fact that they are such a chill and breezy. The Post Malone song have that quality. It’s  the song you want to hear, dance, sing-along and scream in a rave party with friends. As what the lyrics says, “We party like Post Malone.”

3. Filipina Girl – Billy Crawford feat. Marcus Davis and James Reid

Damn! Billy Crawford, Marcus Davis and James Reid displayed an amazing blend using their laid-back voices. They’re voices has the power to make girls fall in love, not to mention how handsome James is. These three boys made Filipina Girl feel like an international song. Aside from the music itself, I love that the song is dedicated to all Filipina girls out there. Yes! There ain’t nothing in this world like us!

2. Lose you to Love me – Selena Gomez

For me, this is the best song Selena Gomez has ever made. It conveys so much emotions, especially when you’re aware of what she has been through. She’s not just singing. She’s telling us a story. I like the visuals of Lose you to Love me music video. Like layers coming off of an onion, Selena remove the layers of her wounds and traumas, revealing her true inner core now, which shows self-love.

1. Monopoly – Ariana Grande feat. Victoria Monet

Monopoly is one of the songs that’s not given much attention by producers and streamers but found its way to my heart. The thing I love about Monopoly is the fact that it sounded genuine. The music video just shows two friends having fun, singing and bonding. I love seeing them so authentic like this. This just shows that you don’t need to do something exaggerated and expensive to publicize.
