Ikea’s Swedish Restaurant: Smaklig Måltid!
Shopping at the largest Ikea store in the world is fun but tiring. Going inside the building is like a labyrinth since the store layout is in a fixed path design, which means that there’s a designated road that customers must follow and it guides them through the store in one direction. Imagine how long it will be for Ikea shoppers in Pasay. It was a long walk so after shopping, one will be tempted to grab a meal in Swedish Restaurant, Ikea’s flagship restaurant.
Trying out the Swedish Restaurant in Ikea is also a discovery about the food preference of the people from Sweden and how it differs to other cuisines around the world. I even realized that they do not want strong flavors on their food
An awesome marketing tactic is also used in the Swedish Restaurant. It’s like a grocery. The restaurant offers numerous dishes served in an elevated cafeteria style with a Swedish twist. Cart with trays will be given to customers. There is also a designated path to follow and all the food offered are lined up. So if you are really hungry or you can’t control your hand from picking everything that attracts you, you’ll end up having a lot on your tray.
That’s what happened to us when we first visited the Swedish Restaurant! We just realized that we grabbed too much when we laid them all on the table. Such a budol! Here are the food we got, though.

The first in line are difference slices of cakes. They all looked tempting so I remember our group grabbed three kinds of cakes on our first visit. They were all almost flavorless. That’s when I realized that Swedish cuisine are generally bland by today’s standards. The Carrot Cake was my fave among the three. It wasn’t too sweet because it focused mainly on the flavor of carrots. The nuts added some texture and crunch. The Apple Cake was too sour for my liking. The Almond Cake was also alright.
Soma UPS COD ~ Soma OVERNIGHT FEDEX Swedish Meatballs
You can’t leave Ikea without trying the famous Swedish Meatballs. Upon having a bite, you’ll realize why it’s popular. The balls has full of flavors. It’s as tender and fine as fish ball. The gravy is fingerlicking. But it is the jam that surprised me because the savory meatballs complemented with the sweet jam and I couldn’t understand how or why. It’s simply luscious. The mashed potatoes were bland yet good, too. A platter of 12 pieces is enough to make a tummy full. If you want more, you can take a frozen pack home.

The Chicken Wings in Swedish Restaurant tastes nothing like the chicken wings we’ve tasted in any other wings stops. I can sense some weird flavors but I can’t say that it’s bad. There are some Singaporean or Chinese spices that is lingering from it’s skin. Is it five spice? Nevertheless, the taste was appetizing. It may look sticks and stones but you can obtain a lot of meat from them since the pieces were huge. I think, they were just a little overcooked so the meat was dry and kinda stuck to the bones.
Marinated Salmon with Green Salad
In this table full of bland Nordic dishes, finally, there is the Marinated Salmon, which was the only salty dish here. This is probably brought by curing process. They were able to make this distinct from their other salmon dish, which is the Baked Salmon Fillet. But both are delish on their own ways. The Marinated Salmon is accompanied with mustard dill sauce that fits the cold fish well. You can ditch the green salad because it was just plain lettuce with cherry tomatoes. Some leaves were even bitter. It was the dressing that saved it.
Baked Lasagna
Visually, I love how firm the Baked Lasagna looked. It appeared like a flaky pastry. But upon piercing it with fork, it was actually soft. The pasta sheets were thick but it didn’t taste like flour. The meat part was just thin but I can feel a lot of ground meat once eaten. There weren’t too much tomato sauce so lasagna was cheesier. The cheese layers were like cheesecake in texture. They were so fluffy. The broccoli on the side were simply steamed so it excreted the natural vegetable flavors, which is definitely good.
German Sausage
The sausage was meaty and flavorful but apart from beef, I can mostly taste the black pepper. The texture of the ground meat was fine but not as fine as the commercialized once. The casing came off on its own so the filling just crumbled on plate. I was also bothered because it may be juicy but it was also oily. Therefore, it became satiating after a few bites. I suggest eating it with a bread. There are actually various kinds of bread after the German Sausage. Also, there are hotdog sandwiches available in Swedish Bistro.
Soy-based Ice Cream
Displaying the ice cream machines outside the grocery was so effective that it made us buy ice cream from Swedish Bistro even it was freezing inside the building, mainly because we want to try operating the machine. We didn’t regret it thougj since the soft-serve was truly creamy and yummy. It’s not too sweet. I can definitely taste the soya in it. The cone was bland and plain though. It would be better if they offer sweet cone, the one that the local dirty ice cream vendors offer. I’m willing to pay more if they have that.
Nordic Drinks
Here comes the unlimited Nordic Drinks. Before trying, one has to be aware they are all unsweetened so one should expect the drinks to be bland. But there is sugar on the side if you want to add sweetness. They are like sparkling water with flavors. The Pear and Unsweetened Cola has too much carbonic acid so the bubbles felt strong in throat. Lingonberry is like water with little fruity hint. My favorite is the elderflower tea. It may be as clear as water but it’s the sweetest. It’s floral and fruity. The two latter drinks I mentioned are the most refreshing among the Nordic drinks.
