Windmill Lausanne: Beauty, Charm And Adventure Await At The Windmill

Back in 2021, when lockdown restrictions were lifted, we wasted no time revving up our motorbike and riding out of Mindoro for one of our first trips straight to Windmill Lausanne in Crosswinds, Tagaytay. As early as their soft opening day, we were already there, soaking in the Swiss-inspired charm like invited food vloggers eager to get the first scoop.

The sight was nothing short of enchanting. A towering windmill stood proudly against a backdrop of thick pine trees, instantly transporting us to a European alpine escape. The crisp Tagaytay breeze made the experience even more immersive, and it wasn’t just about the view. The food promised to be just as memorable.

From hearty dishes to comforting baked goods, Windmill Lausanne brought a unique European-inspired dining experience to Tagaytay. It was a delightful mix of novelty and nostalgia that is perfect for anyone looking for a scenic dining spot with a Swiss twist.

Hot Latte | Hot Caramel Latte

The latte was just a typical latte. I kinda understand why people online would bash this coffee. The reason is its unreasonable price. It costs 260 pesos and there was nothing special. But if it was priced decently, I would say that the coffee wasn’t that bad. In this Tagaytay weather at December, you would really appreciate it. It was comforting. As for the Hot Caramel Latte. It didn’t really differ from Coffee Project’s. Although the earthy touch of the coffee bean was recognizable, the coffee was defined by caramel syrup.

Tsokolate Batirol

The Tsokolate Batirol surprised me the most because I thought it would just be served in a disposable paper cup or a beautiful mug at most. Windmill Lausanne went extra by placing the hot chocolate in an actual batirol. With a wooden mixer or molinillo present, it invites customers to mix and pour the hot chocolate by themselves, which made the experience more interactive. It was totally fun! This resulted to yummy, rich and frothy chocolate. Plus, the tsokolate in batirol can serve two persons.

Tomato Soup with Toasted Fourcheese Bread

At first they mistakenly gave me a simple toast. I guess the staff wasn’t aware how important grilled cheese to this combo. But I returned it and explained how my order should. Afterwards, they did an awesome job to the sandwich. I could recognize all of the four flavors of the cheese they used. It was even better because of the crunch from the toasted bread. The soup was flawless in having that tomato tang. The consistency was really thick. I truly appreciate its natural flavor with a hint of basil. I enjoyed dipping the sandwich into the soup!

Beef Lasagne

The Beef Lasagne delivered a comforting, Italian-inspired flavor profile. What stood out immediately was its rich tomato base. It was bold, tangy, and reminiscent of a proper ragu. I love that they didn’t hold back on the tomatoes, which gives the dish that authentic Italian vibe. The cheese layer is equally generous, adding a creamy balance to the robust sauce. Though the meat component is on the minimal side, the flavor is well-incorporated, making every bite satisfying. Plus, the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente even in lasagne form, which isn’t always easy to achieve.

Corned Beef, Hash and Eggs | Bluemoon Milk Latte

At last, we weren’t served with a corned beef that is from a can or pulled into strands. Now, we appreciate the corned beef in chunked briskets. There was a fullness in flavor of the beef that we truly enjoyed when it was in this form. It went well with the big hashes of potatoes, which were crispy. The egg was well-salted and was nicely cooked. I was really astonished with the layers of blue and white of their Bluemoon Milk Latte so I didn’t miss trying it. It’s like their version of horchata. It was sweet and had that cinnamon taste.

Pepper Beef

It seems like they are having their own take on Pepper Lunch’s Beef Pepper Rice. I couldn’t deny that this rice meal on skillet is delish. However, there was an intensity in the flavor of the sauce that could be toned down because it was too much. It’s a good thing there’s rice that can lessen its strength. They could, maybe, add corn kernels to balance it with sweetness. In terms of size, it looked small but it actually had a generous serving of beef cuts. I love that they were tender and thinly-sliced.

Chicken Poppers and Fries

That crispy-looking coating on chicken didn’t lie. I could feel the crunch in every bite. I could tell why it is called poppers. These pieces may be small but each bite actuallt had a decent amount of chicken meat inside. I also appreciate that it was just seasoned with salt and pepper so we could taste the natural flavor of the chicken. The potato fries were thick and starchy as well. This combo comes with two options of sauce. The gravy tastes exactly like the sauce of the Pepper Beef. It’s creamy and strong. The other one is ranch, which is good as well.

Pecan Bar | Strawberry Banana

Let’s see what a 200-peso pecan bar tastes like. It’s moist and not too sweet. It had a light crunch. I admit that it’s almost perfect but I still thought it’s too expensive for its price, not to mention that there wasn’t much pecans. For the Strawberry Banana, I couldn’t really distinguish the essence of banana in this smoothie. If they were talking about the banana chips topping, well, that’s irrelevant to the fruit fusion. Instead, it tasted like a strawberry mixed with yoghurt. It’s fine but not it’s not what I’m looking forward when I ordered it.
