Anti-aging Granola
The first plan is to handcraft granolas that are brain boosting, energy restoring, flu fighting and fit sustaining only. But I guess that we also need a bowl of granola that is anti-aging.
As we age, we may not feel as confident as we were when we were still young. As we age, we may form wrinkles, acnes, blemishes, pigmentation and dead skin. It’s so irritating that we just want to keep that youthful glow.
I just read that if one wants to be beautiful, he or she has to be healthy. So basically, the way we appear has something to do with what we eat.
Therefore, I created a meal that we can enjoy for this purpose.
Pistachios
Considered as one of the most expensive nuts, pistachios has a high price value because of its taste and its nutritional effects to body. Pistachios are great source of vitamin E, which may help repair skin tissue, retain skin moisture and protect skin from damaging UV rays. It has antioxidants that protect our cells from free radical damage. Just make sure that the pistachios you have there are unsalted because the widely-available salted pistachios may trick you and may increase your sodium intake, too.
Couscous
For my diet, I’ve been eating couscous as an alternative for rice lately as it is high in fiber. It’s a kind of pasta, which is sometimes mistaken as a grain. But either way, I recommend adding pearl couscous on granolas because it has low glycaemic index, a measurement of speed at which carbohydrates are broken down after you eat them. Scientists believe that following a low-glycemic diet may reduce acne because this diet eliminates spikes in blood sugar.
Goji Berries
In every anti-aging list I’ve read, berries are present, may it be strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, cranberry or goji berries. Berries are a great source of antioxidants and other nutrients, which are fighter of free radicals that cause damage to body. Specifically, goji berry is a significant source of vitamin C, minerals, amino acids, carotenoids and polysaccharides. It’s a good thing that my mom bought some dried goji berries for her nut and berry mix so I was able to include it in my granola.
Lettuce
Leafy vegetables may be more suitable for other purposes like flu fighting and fit sustaining but it isn’t bad to add it on our anti-aging dishes. Lettuce has dietary fibre and antioxidants that is helpful in flushing our toxins from body and skin. It also helps in giving the skin a protective layer that saves it from the damages caused by the harmful rays of the sun. Oh girl! I’ll be eating lots of lettuce this coming summer. After all, salad granola sounds good.
Maple Syrup
For sweetener, we don’t want those that have high fructose content like white sugar and corn syrup. So we’ll opt for naturally sweetened granola using maple syrup. Just like any other plant-based products, the pure ones contains up to 24 different antioxidants and can help to lower skin inflammation, redness, blemishes and dryness. Aside from having maple syrup intake, the mixture of maple syrup and honey can also be applied topically as facial and skincare regimen.
