Awesome Food Pairings

It’s the 429th day of quarantine period in our region and I just have to say that. It became a habit now. It has nothing to do with today’s topic because we will again talk about food. There’s nothing new about that but I think today’s topic will interest you or, perhaps, might be added to your food knowledge.

Listed below are ten awesome food combinations based on flavors. Check out as some of this might leave you nodding while others might give you a weird feeling.

Mozzarella and Tomato

Of course, mozzarella and tomato should be number one on this list. I couldn’t think of a better pair! I know Mexicans and Italians are agreeing with me as this pair is a great part of their cuisines. There’s pizza, pasta, caprese salad and quesadilla with tomato dip to name a few. Actually, grilled cheese and tomato soup works already for me.

Grilled Chicken and Pesto

My first grilled chicken and pesto meal was in The Old Spaghetti House. After trying their Spaghetti Pesto with Grilled Chicken, my pesto recipes are never complete without grilled chicken. I can imagine the earthy flavor of pesto smothered all over the char-grilled flavor of the chicken. Ugh! They’re out-of-this-world crazy good together!

Peanut Butter and Jelly

This combo is popular already that it doesn’t need explanation anymore. PB&J is one of the famous sandwich fillings in US. The fat in peanut butter is mostly good fat, the sweetness comes from the jelly and the bread is the vehicle that holds all this gloriousness together. The combination is basic but tasty and satisfying.

Oreo and Matcha

When we ask our customers what toppings they would like to add to their Matcha milk tea, we always recommend adding Oreo. It’s the best option, not pearls! Aside from the fun contasting flavors of the two, the sweetness and creaminess of the Oreo cookies tones down the bitterness of the matcha, with both flavors still recognizable.

Chocolate and Mint

Some people may not want the fusion of chocolate and mint but I’ll argue with them on this. It’s decadent and refreshing at the same time. Actually, chocolate goes well with everything but mint just hit the spot. It’s great on its own as I can devour a whole bar of it. It is also great as a garnish to dishes.

Apple and Cinnamon

I’m not really familiar with this pairing but I think, apple and cinnamon combination is well-known in Western countries. I’ve tried this flavors for my pies, cobblers, drinks and others and it really deserve a spot in this list. Unlike other things in this list, this is a blend of tangy and sweet. These two have pretty impressive health benefits, too.

Honey and Gorgonzola

We are always taught to pair gorgonzola with fruits or jams when enjoying a charcuterie board. But when I discovered Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory’s Honey and Gorgonzola Cookies, I became obsessed with this combo. Virtually any kind of cheese is enhanced when paired with honey but this one is on another level.

Blueberry and Cream Cheese

There’s another salty-sweet combo right here! The idea of blueberry and cream cheese created together made our favorite summer dessert ever – the blueberry cheesecake. It’s everyone’s favorite in Breen. Aside from the the cake itself, we also made a Blueberry Cheesecake flavor of milk tea to satisfy this combo cravings.

Peaches and Cream

Peaches and cream! Peaches and cream! I don’t know. I just couldn’t mention peaches without the cream. For me, it can’t go alone without the other. Actually, there’s a famous bakeshop in Calapan that is named after this combo. Perhaps, that’s one of the reason why I couldn’t get this two out of my head.

Ube and Cheese

The rise of ube cheese pandesal during the first months of lockdown proved that ube and cheese are long-lost partners. It’s an indication that salty and sweet really go well together. Of course, our milk tea shop joined the hype by introducing our Ube Cheese Milk Tea series and it surprisingly became Breen‘s signature drink.
