How I Make Thai Milk Tea
With the rise of Taiwan bubble teas and Hong Kong-style milk teas, a certain milk tea from Thailand has also earned a widespread popularity across the world. Thai Milk Tea, locally known as Nom Yen, is a drink that can find almost anywhere in the streets of Thailand. It uses a specific leaves from the country, mixed with spices and milk.
We are familiar with Thai Milk Tea since it is one of the milk tea flavors we make at Breen. But we are also aware that it is just the commercial way of doing Thai Milk Tea and not the traditional way.
One day, a friend came back from her tour in Thailand and brought us a pack of ChaTraMue Thai tea leaves. That’s when I was able to imitate the proper way of making Nom Yen.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- 2 tbsps Thai Tea Leaves
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsps condensed milk
- 1 cup hot water
- ice
2. Fill tea bag with two scoops of Thai Tea leaves.
3. Infuse Thai Tea leaves in a cup of boiled water.
4. Get your glasses and put a tablespoon of condensed mill on each of them.
5. Pour about a half cup of brewed Thai tea of each glass and mix.
6. Add a little ice.
7. Top with a quarter cup of fresh milk on each glass.
8. Your Nom Yen is now done and ready to be served.
