How To Make Korean Barbecue
It’s the 58th day of quarantine period in our region and a blessing just came! Last week, I received a news that Mr. Won’s Samgyeopsal, a Korean Restaurant located at Calapan, is offering deliveries in my area. I didn’t think twice to grab a package. At last, after long months, I’ll be having a great Samgyeopsal again.
I will post a complete review of Mr. Won’s Samgyeopsal once we get to experience the real Samgyeopsal dining in their restaurant. That will be after this lockdown so stay tune. For the meantime, let’s enjoy Korean barbecue in the comfort of our home.
How to make Korean barbecue or Samgyeopsal at home? If you’re living in Calapan, it’s actually very simple. Contact Mr. Won’s Samgyeopsal and they’ll have your KBBQ order delivered at your doorstep. Their packages are already complete with meat, rice, lettuce, side dishes, sauces and cooking equipments. But if you’re not living near the Korean restaurant, you can follow my budget-friendly alternative way. Please note that the method stated is mine but the subject in the photos is from Mr. Won’s Samgyeopsal.
1. Prepare all the ingredients needed.
- pork belly slices
- lettuce
- baby potatoes
- pickled radish
- kimchi
- cucumber
- fish cakes
- 2 tbsp soybean paste
- 1/2 tsp honey
- 1 tsp chili sauce
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- sesame seed
- salt
- pepper
- cheese
2. Prepare the side dishes. Mr. Won provided us braised baby potatoes, pickled radish, kimchi, cucumber salad and stir-fried fish cakes. But you are free to choose whichever you want among these.
3. Make Ssamjang by combining soybean paste, honey and chili sauce.
4. Upgrade the sesame oil dipping sauce by adding sesame seeds, salt and pepper.
5. Melt cheese.
6. Cook meat in griller. Aside from pork belly slices, Mr. Won also included Woosamgyeop or beef belly slices.
7. Take a leaf of lettuce in one hand and put a piece of meat in it.
8. Add kimchi or any from the side dish.
9. Wrap lettuce and dip in sauce.
10. Enjoy!
