And I am so fortunate to be one of the representatives of our school and of MIMAROPA for Broadcasting and Script writing competition during the National School’s Press Conference that took place in Palawan. I was an upcoming third year student when that happened and it was my first and last visit in Puerto Princesa as of the time this was posted. It was five years ago. As of that time, I have no intentions of putting these photos I captured in this my blog. This explains why the photos you’ll see are not the things you expect to be in a blog. It was five years ago yet all the tourist spots we visited and memories we had in Puerto Princesa are still clear on my mind. Part of them was Puerta Princesa’s famous butterfly garden.

The facade of Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is irresistible. You will never say no if they invite you to come in. And of course, the inside was a lot more beautiful. With wonderful creatures flying around you, the place is eco-friendly and culturally refreshing. I can stay there for a whole day. It is also a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of local tribal life and some of the families who make their living from the forest.

The garden showcases a sheer variety of tropical butterflies of the Southern region of the country. Wow! I’m surprised that the Philippines has such lovely butterflies and I’m happy that Palawan Butterfly Ecological Garden and Tribal Village is created to preserve this beauty. Aside from varieties of kinds and colors of butterflies, I can also see dragonflies and birds hovering around us as if they are playing with us.

The insects are not limited to the flying ones only as the garden also exhibits unique insects. They have centipedes, millipedes, stag beetle, gecko, giant scorpion, stick insect, baby turtle, baby crocodile and Palawan bear cat to name a few. I never thought that insects can be adorable, interesting, informative and, not to mention, friendly. How did I say that? It’s because we were allowed to handle some of them and they seem to love it.

Now, let’s talk about the plant life of the garden since it has numerous of them, too. I just can’t name them because they are in scientific language as I recall. I won’t remember those after six years. However, I remember how green the place was. It’s evident that the plants were all raised with love and care and that the land was well-maintained. If only I can carry this garden in a bag, I would do so and put it in my home. This kind of view is all I need in a city girl’s life.

Apart from having green thumb and love for animals, the staff are accommodating and helpful as well. Guests will definitely feel that they are welcome through their smiles. Moreover, they have good communication skills that can front to foreign tourists. I bet they have a lot of those simply because it’s in Palawan. I admire that they are smart and well-trained. Well, they just answered all of our questions! Woah!

As its name says, the butterfly garden also has a tribal village that shelters the indigenous people of Palawan who have been living in the province for thousand years. Through this, they preserve the remaining traits and trades of the group and share them to the people that visits them. If only we have enough time, I would be glad to have photo with them, to talk and listen to their stories and to buy the products they make.

Actually, there is a lot more to see. But sadly, we only have limited time to roam around the garden because we have to fit five of Puerto Princesa’s tourist spots in one day. But surely, if I had the chance to visit Puerto Princesa again and if the time would be on my hand, I will stay here as long as I want and enjoy the tranquility of the place together with the flora and fauna. I will bring my friends, of course, and you should be there, too!
